At Newtown’s Hub we gathered together to raise awareness of the need to aim for strong binding targets of 350ppm.
Together, CAN and the Newtown community created a massive iceberg made of bamboo and tissue paper, we set up a visual petition where community members could tell our Obama like Kevin Rudd cut-out their wishes for the future. We also had hundred of letters signed directed to NSW politicians calling for a moratorium on coal fired power generation in NSW and an urgent transition to renewable energy.
Around the world On 24 October, people in 181 countries came together for the most widespread day of environmental action in the planet’s history. At over 5200 events arcoss the globe, people gathered to call for strong action and bold leadership on the climate crisis.
Over 19,000 photos have been submitted so far! See them all on Flickr »
There were school children planting 350 trees in Bangladesh, scientists hanging banners on the statues on Easter Island, 350 scuba divers diving underwater at the Great Barrier Reef, and a thousand more creative actions like these.
